Joseph R. Tiano Jr is Co-Founder and President of Legal Decoder, an AI-powered legal spend analytics company transforming how corporate legal departments and law firms price, manage, and evaluate outside counsel costs. After nearly two decades in private practice, Joe co-founded Legal Decoder to address a fundamental industry challenge — the lack of data and analytics needed to meaningfully understand and improve legal billing.

Joe’s legal career began as a venture capital lawyer representing high-growth technology companies and evolved into senior roles in AmLaw 100 firms. He served as Partner at Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman, LLP and Thelen LLP, where he built and managed a multi-million-dollar cross-border finance practice. His professional journey spans litigation, transactional work, and legal strategy, giving him a deep understanding of both the operational and economic forces shaping modern legal services.

An active writer, speaker, and educator, Joe has authored numerous law review articles and industry essays on legal analytics, artificial intelligence, legal ethics, and legal operations.
